Cris & I went to the Sparta drive-in this past Sunday evening to see "Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix". (By the way - the movie is really good. Not as good as the book - but still worth seeing.)
This was the first time Cris had ever been to a drive-in. There used to be one in Cookeville that I would go to, but they've been closed for years. This was the first time I had gone to the one in Sparta, even though it's been open for a couple of years.
According to Cris, drive-ins are a very American thing. So I'll explain a little to those of you who may not know how they work. You drive through and park in a big field/parking lot. They have it set up so there are "parking spaces" which are marked with plenty of space on either side. In front, there is a large screen which is where they will play the movie and the sound comes from a specific station on your own car radio. You can sit in your car or you can bring chairs to set up in the grass around your car. The movies starts once it is dark outside, but you usually want to get there before dusk so you can get a good spot. There is a concession stand & bathrooms. You can bring your own snacks from home if you want.
They typically play 2 movies back-to-back. So it is a relatively cheap way to see a couple of movies. It is quite a bit of fun & we enjoyed it. We took the jeep & Mom watched Emma for us. We actually got to watch a movie alone!! WOW!
Cris thought it was great and was already thinking we could go back in a couple of weeks (with all of the kids this time) to watch the movie "Transformers".
