Hello, everyone.
It is a quiet (relatively) Sunday afternoon, so I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello and to let everyone know that we are still here.
Life at our household has been busy as usual - maybe a little more than normal. Tyler, Zech & Kyla are all back in school and have been since the first of August. It took some time but they seem to have adjusted.
Tyler is in the 7th grade this year and at Avery Trace Middle School. This is a new school for him and it took some time to adjust to the changes. He decided to give band a try this year (surprised us all) and is playing the trombone. While he is not a gifted musician, we can tell that he is learning. We can actually make out some of the tunes he is playing!! All joking aside, he is doing great and seems to enjoy band. It was a shock to us, but it's nice to see that he has some very diverse interests.
Zech is in 4th grade at Capshaw. He is the top dog this year. He is still involved in his "peak" classes and seems to be doing well. The peak classes provide a more varied education. I believe he has this class for one hour a week, but they essentially choose the topics they will study. Last year, they studied Greece and the solar systems. He has decided to join the chess club again this year.
Kyla is in 1st grade at Northeast. This year is somewhat of a shock for her. They bring home quite a bit more homework (every night) and they are really pushing them to learn sounds and to spell. The children have to be prepared to start reading for second grade. She is doing well with schoolwork, but she does like to talk - a little too much. She decided to take a cheerleading class. It is right up her alley - with all of the dramatics that go into cheerleading. She has only had one class so far, but she enjoyed it.
Emma is growing & changing more everyday. She is very spoiled and very, very stubborn! It is her way or no way. We are trying to break her of that attitude. We are also having to make the other kids stop giving her whatever she wants. She talks a little more each day. We really can't understand alot of what she says, but... that is normal. She is really good at saying: bye, hi, more, etc. She has also learned all about climbing. Cris put her on the lawnmower (it was off) the other day for a little bit and then took her off. We turned back around & she was sitting in the lawnmower seat! Imagine our surprise. She has also figured out how to climb into her high chair.
Cris & I are both well - if not tired. Cris has some good news. He received a promotion at work to IT Team Leader. YEAH! It came as somewhat of a shock because he really wasn't expecting it, but he is excited to have the new challenges. I am busy with school work. I am rounding the corner to the end. I should have my Associates degree by the end of next summer.
The other news (& most dominating) is the football season. Both boys are playing football this year. Practices started at the end of July. They practice 4 days (typically) a week with a game on Saturday. It is a really hard schedule to keep up with. The official season opened up 4 weeks ago. Tyler's team has been doing very well. They have won all of their games until their game yesterday. Unfortunately, Zech's team isn't having such a good year. The boys work really hard & put their hearts into the game, but sadly, the score doesn't show it. For us, we spend quite a bit of time on the road. The home games aren't as bad, but we still end up spending the day at the football field. The away games take up the day as well. We typically travel up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get to the field & we have to be their 1 1/2 hours before the game. Then they play the game & we head home. Very long days... especially in the heat.
So... that is our life at the moment. We are all mostly healthy, except for coughs and sniffles.
I suppose that is all the news I have right now. Hope everyone is well & happy.
